Abstract
A new method for measuring the bovine teat canal sphincter (TSC) has been developed at the Department Of Agricultural Engineering in co-operation with the Department of Animal hygiene, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU). The device registers the first measurement when a contact between the device and the teat wall is established, and the second measurement is taken when the first drop of milk appear. The measurements with the device described in this report take a short time and the measurements can be made before or after milking without any risk of inserting pathogenic material into the sensitive teat canal.
