Coordination chemistry of metal ions in some oxygen donor solvents

Persson, I.

Abstract

The methods used to study the structure of hydrated and solvated metal ions in solution are shortly reviewed and evaluated. The reported structure and coordination chemistry of the hydrated metal ions and cationic hydrolysis complexes in aqueous solution are summarized and discussed. In some cases where data from aqueous solution are not available, data from solid state structures have been evaluated. The coordination chemistry and complex formation ability of metal ions in solvents which are space-demanding at solvation of metal ions have been reviewed. The two space-demanding solvents at coordination included in this article are N,N'-dimethylpropylene urea and hexamethylphosphoramide.
