From Tree to Rhizome : the Story of Wandering Roots

Abstract

In this chapter I reflect on my journey as an early career researcher, born and raised in Mainland China but always felt a sense of multiplicity. The stories I tell here not only manifest this multiplicity but also allow perhaps more to imagine how personal and career choices are always already interwoven with broader contexts, be it histories or places. Never seen myself as ‘a rising star’, I do hope this chapter shows that my wandering roots are relatable and that we are not merely following our dream/heart as we struggle through academic hurdles but also creating new routes for other wandering roots to inhabit. We live in one dimension of the future.
