Abstract

We investigate odour coding and its modulation in a model of the macroglomerular complex (MGC), a specialized structure in the primary olfactory centre of male moths whose function is to analyze information about sexual pheromone emitted by conspecific females. Using a model network of the MGC we analyze how changes in ionic conductances and voltage for half-maximal inactivation of A current triggered by serotonin and changes in connection strengths controlled by juvenile hormone may modulate the sensitivity and excitability of the system. We also use the model to interpret the inhibitory period observed after pheromone stimulation
