Stephanospora xibalba is described from the Yucatan peninsula, Mexico, based on morphological and molecular data. This species is characterized by the small red-orange basidiomata, broadly ellipsoid to ellipsoid basidiospores (6.8-11.6 x 6.3-9.5 mu m) with a small (3.2-4.5 x 1-1.5 mu m) partial corona, and the association with Gymnopodium floribundum.
