Viroid infection and host epigenetic alterations

Marquez-Molins, J.; Martinez, G.; Pallás, V.; Gomez, G.

Abstract

Effects of the viroid infection on the host epigenetic-landscape. Viroid derived biological forms (circular monomers, multimers, linear monomers, and viroid derived small RNAs [vd-sRNAs]) produced during viroid life cycle accumulate in infected plants. As a consequence of this canonical infection process, diverse alterations are induced in the host epigenome. The biological pathways subverted by viroids to promote these changes remain, in general, in a conundrum. (+) plus strand. (−) minus strand.
