Abstract

Spectroscopic transmission ellipsometry (STE) permits quick measurement of the microfibril angle (MFA) of single, intact wood fibres. In a testing measurement, this method was used to measure MFA in spruce fibres which were attacked by soft rot fungi. The obtained results for the MFA were analyzed and compared with the orientation angles of the cavities produced by the softrot fungi in the fibre walls. Measurements are in reasonably good agreement with each other
