Felton, Adam; Felton, Annika M.; Lindenmayer, David B.

Abstract

The Reddish Hermit (Phaethornis ruber) is a commonly encountered hummingbird within the understory of tropical forests from Venezuela to south-east Brazil. Reddish Hermits, like many hummingbirds, perform elaborate displays associated with mate and territory acquisition. We provide the first detailed description with supporting illustrations of intricate displays between two male P. ruber to which we refer as "Rotation" and "Are" displays.
