Animal dispersal of bryophytes has gained comparatively little interest in scientific literature. During a long period of time observations of animals transporting fragments or spores have been reported in a more prosaic character. The last decades though, there has been a number of scientific studies on the topic, some of which are reviewed in this article. The overall conclusion is that animals may in fact play a role in both short and long distance dispersal of sexual and asexual propagules of bryophytes
