Wool characteristics of Bakhtiari sheep and the correlated responses to selection for pre-weaning daily gain

The study was conducted to investigate whether selection on pre-weaning daily gain will affect wool production and its quality or not in Bakhtiari sheep. Sheep (150) were selected randomly to make 5 equal sized age groups from 1 to 5-year-old sheep, containing 5 rams and 25 ewes in each group. According to the standards of wool sampling from shoulder and side, these body parts were marked on each animal before shearing. According to the high percentage of true type fibres, to decrease fibre diameter, it would be more efficient to select directly on fibre diameter rather than selection for the percentage of true type fibres.Published in
