Signalment: A 19 year old Shetland pony gelding had prominent weight loss over the last 2 months. Its teeth were filed to remove sharp edges and the pony mistakenly was treated with a double dose of phenylbutazone for 5 days prior to admission to our hospital (SLU). It had hypoproteinemia and ventral edema and lipemia. The main indication to examine this case presentation is the hematology results on Febuary 7. Two earlier hematology samples were analyzed with similar Advia and blood smear results.
