Genetic parameters, genetic gain and correlated responses in growth, fibre dimensions and wood density in a Scots pine breeding population

Fries, Anders

Abstract

Selecting the trees in the top 10 % for height will give minor increase in fibre width (+1 %), and decrease in relative fibre length (-0.84 %) and area-weighted earlywood, latewood and whole-ring densities (-1 % to 1.9 %) indicating limited scope for combining improvements in wood and fibre traits with increased growth through breeding.
