Abstract

Searching for cDNAs encoding plant sterol acyltransferases, four lecithin : cholesterol acyltransferase (LCAT)-like cDNAs from A.thaliana were isolated. One of these cDNAs was overexpressed in A.thaliana and shown by enzymatic characterization to encode a phospholipid:sterol acyltransferase, PSAT (see the accompanying poster by A. Banas et al.). The steryl ester content and composition of AtPSAT-overexpressers, T-DNA insertion mutants and wild type Arabidopsis will be described and compared. The results clearly confirm in vivo the involvment of AtPSAT in sterol esterification
