Isolation, identification and necrotic activity of viridiol from Chalara fraxinea, the fungus responsible for dieback of ash

Abstract

Investigation of secondary metabolite production of Chalara fraxinea, the fungus responsible for dieback of ash, led to the isolation of the phytotoxin viridiol and the fungistatic compound viridin. Viridiol showed necrotic activity towards ash-seedlings.
