Abstract

Horse stable managers have to manage several safety risks, which consequences can be serious to the stable, the stable employees, clients, visitors and horses. Other industrial or farm production risk management tools are not directly applicable to horse stables but need to be adapted in to horse stable manager’s use. New safety management tools are needed when stable unit sizes increase. The Innoequine project led by MTT Agrifood Research Finland designed an innovative web tool for horse stable safety practices and management. An extensive literature review, empirical horse stable case studies, expert panel workshops and stakeholder interviews were carried out for the web tool design. As a result, the Innohorse web tool includes a horse stable safety map, stable safety checklists, good practices for e.g. stable safety, horse handling, rescue planning and an information page about safety in horse stable activities. The new horse stable safety management tool can also help when organizing horse stable activities. The Innoequine project was funded by European Union Central Baltic Interreg IVA Programme.
