Computer modelling of the impact of feed, climate and diseases on the performance of fattening pigs

Swensson, C; Grimsberg, M; Herlin, A

Abstract

The model shows that the most two most important factors are the feed content, especially the balance of amino acids and the health status of the pig. The model is used in the education of agricultural technologists and it is useful in showing the complexity of the performance of fattening pigs. Another advantage is that it easy to compare the impact of different feedstuffs and different management practises. A disadvantage is the complexity of the theory of the model which can be difficult to explain to students.
