We aim at analysing and describing logging contractors’ emerging strategies to develop their businesses. Departing form established theory of entrepreneurship, business strategy, and organisations we present a model of strategies for business development with the entrepreneurial activity in the center. Data collected through interviews, seminar discussions, and case studies are analysed within the framework of the presented model. We identify driving forces behind the contractors’ development efforts and we distinguish one reactive and one proactive main development strategy. The contractors develop their business due to firm internal resources and the external conditions of the local context they are acting upon and within. Our research show how entrepreneurship evolves among contractors in the mature industry of logging
