Pigs were inoculated with B.hyodysenteriae. Blood was sampled before inoculation, at clinical signs of swine dysentery and during 3 weeks of recovery. Dysentery pigs had elevated levels of Serum Amyloid A and circulating neutrophils, monocytes, CD8+ cells and activated (CD45RA) lymphocytes during dysentery. The CD8+ cells where mainly CD4and CD8. There was a decrease in B cells and an increase in T cells after inoculation. Serum antibodies where present at day 7 of the recovery from clinical symptoms and onwards. The alterations in protein metabolism and its role will also be addressed
