Abstract

In Gotland sheep several different traits including wool colour traits are recorded in most breeding rams.Here, the distributions of three wool colour traits are described and an association analysis is performedwith a five base pair deletion (D5) in the gene ASIP. Phenotypes were available for 96 rams of which 43 alsohad a D 5 genotype. There was a significant association between presence of D 5 and the trait ‘cleanness ofcolour’. This investigation also confirmed earlier indications of that all Gotland sheep seem to have multiplecopies of ASIP.
