Sammanfattning

The fragile agricultural landscape in the Swedish archipelago is no more profitable for private farming. Under the common agricultural policy farmers can, however, get public funding for the provision of public goods. In a part of the Swedish archipalago private farming and public funding is still not enough to cover investment costs. In this area a local district group asked a subgroup of its members to use their own money and contribute to the investment in a limited number of privatly owned stables. The allocation of members time and money made it possible to invest in new buildings. Built on this individual case a survey within Sweden confirms that such private initiatives within the provision of public goods are common, even if the monetary contributions usually are insignificant
