Sustainable packaging from an agricultural product side-stream

Sammanfattning

Will agricultural side streams be the solution for production of futurefood packages? Our results indicate the usefulness of wheat gluten, a sidestream from the ethanol and starch industry, as a raw material for packaging production.Wheat gluten coatedpaperboard showed excellent barrier properties while beingproduced with existingindustrial processes. Ourwork will contributeto a sustainable circular bio-based economy through theexchange of petroleumbased feed-stocks. This willincrease the environmentallyfriendly use ofplant based side streamsas the raw material for food packaging solutions.
