Skogsmaskinentreprenörers diversifiering – Empiriska resultat och en tolkningsmodell

Hultåker, Oscar; Bohlin, Folke

Sammanfattning

Logging contractor profits in Swedish forestry were reported to decrease substantially 1992-1999. The work environment in mechanised logging is problematic resulting in e.g. musculoskeletal disorders. Previous research has shown needs for both business and work environment development in the logging industry. This report continues our efforts at exploring possibilities for development of logging businesses. Our aim in this report is to investigate the incentives of logging contractors to develop their businesses. We have interviewed logging contractors and other representatives of the logging industry regarding contractor incentives for investing in and developing new products and services. We have explored the same themes in action research oriented seminars with representatives of the business. We have found that the contractors’ are active entrepreneurs, introducing innovations to take care of the business possibilities they realise. The innovations result from an interplay between the contractor, his company and the business environment
